Kitting them out for University – DIY

Last Saturday saw the last of my university-bound friends head off to their new adventures. It’s a weird feeling knowing that the girls who’ve I’ve seen pretty much 5 days a week for the past four or five years are now dotted around the country, making new friends, starting new courses, and learning to live independent lives. As I mentioned previously, it’s been a tough couple of weeks saying goodbye, and adjusting to life at home without them. (I apologise if this sounds a bit melodramatic!)

University Encouragement Jars

I’ve always been one to try my hand at DIY – making cards, presents; pretty much anything I could give my hand to. Last year, after searching through Pinterest, I decided to make some ‘University Encouragement Jars’. The idea was, I’d find a selection of encouraging and positive quotes and bible verses, to brighten up a day if needed. This year, I did the same, and they ended up as follows:

However, I also decided to make something smaller, to go alongside the jars. This idea I also found on Pinterest, so I can’t take any credit for the item. But I love the idea, and think it’s a perfect gift to send freshers off with.

I love the ease and simplicity of this gift, yet something so easy can mean so much. I’m hoping that it’s a little reminder of home, and a pick-me up when it’s tough.

To all of my friends starting out at uni this year – remember this. You’re never alone. There are always people who love you – at home, or in your new homes. And you can totally smash this new adventure; I can’t wait to hear all about it.

“Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you.”

Deuteronomy 31:8 (NLT)
